Juan Calatrava, Francisco García Pérez, and David Arredondo García (eds.), La Cultura y la Ciudad. Imagen y representación de lo urbano. Ciudades históricas y eventos culturales, Granada, Editorial Universidad de Granada, 2016, ISBN: 978-84-3385-939-6. The volume gathers the proceedings of the First International Congress «La Cultura y la Ciudad» held in Granada in April 2015, bringing together nearly 140 contributions from researchers at multiple universities and international research centers in over 1,100 pages organized into three thematic sections: «The Coded Image. Representations of the Urban», «The Integrative Image. Heritage and Urban Cultural Landscape», and «Culture and the City / Culture in the City». The book addresses, from a transdisciplinary perspective integrating architecture, urban planning, visual arts, sociology, and literature, the ways in which the city is represented, narrated, and imagined, as well as the role of major cultural events in shaping the identity of historic cities. The reviewer highlights the scientific quality and rigor of the whole, noting that the work has become an indispensable reference for urban cultural studies.
