    Abstract

José Caballero, La aventura de la creación: Escritos, Madrid, Editorial Síntesis, 2014, 209 pp., ISBN 978-84-9958-824-7. The volume brings together a selection of texts by Spanish painter José Caballero (1915-1991), compiled by María Fernanda Thomas de Carranza, including excerpts from personal notebooks, interviews, portraits, and press articles, with a preface by Francisco Calvo Serraller. The book is organized around three main sections: the author's creative evolution, his reflections on art and thought alongside published and unpublished poems, and portraits of figures from his circle such as Neruda, Picasso, García Lorca, and Buñuel. The reviewer highlights the autobiographical transparency and stylistic clarity of Caballero, an epigone of the Generation of '27 and an inner exile after the Spanish Civil War, and regards the book as a magnificent opportunity to discover the existential journey of a cult figure in Spanish art history.
