DIGITAL PRESERVATION POLICY
Arte y Ciudad. Revista de Investigación is committed to the long-term preservation of its digital content, ensuring permanent accessibility for the present and future academic community, in line with the recommendations of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and international best practices in scholarly publishing.
Preservation systems
The journal uses the LOCKSS network (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe), a distributed archiving system developed by Stanford University that creates permanent, decentralised copies of published content in participating libraries worldwide. LOCKSS is natively integrated into the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform on which this journal is published.
Copies preserved through LOCKSS are periodically audited to detect and correct possible damage or loss, and remain accessible even in the event that the journal were to cease activity.
Persistent identifiers (DOI)
Each article published in Arte y Ciudad. Revista de Investigación receives a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) registered through Crossref (institutional prefix 10.22530), guaranteeing a permanent reference to the content regardless of future URL or platform changes. The metadata associated with each DOI are deposited in Crossref and are publicly accessible, enabling interoperability with databases, aggregators and citation services.
Institutional copy
Additionally, Arte y Ciudad. Revista de Investigación maintains copies of the published content on the servers of the Complutense University of Madrid and performs periodic backups kept offline. The existence of the print edition through to the most recent issues also offers an additional layer of analogue preservation.
Open formats
Published content is distributed in open and widely supported formats (PDF/A for articles, JPEG/TIFF for images, HTML for web presentation), facilitating reading and future migration to new systems.
Cessation of activity
In the unlikely event that Arte y Ciudad. Revista de Investigación were to cease editorial activity, the published content will remain available through (a) the copies preserved in LOCKSS, (b) the metadata deposited in Crossref with permanent DOIs and (c) the institutional repositories of the Complutense University of Madrid.
