Research Data Policy
RESEARCH DATA DEPOSIT AND AVAILABILITY POLICY
Arte y Ciudad. Revista de Investigación promotes the principles of open science and considers that the research data underpinning published results should be accessible, reusable and verifiable, in line with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).
Recommendation to authors
Authors are encouraged to deposit datasets, supplementary materials, high-resolution images, transcriptions, documentary databases and any other primary resource associated with the article in a trusted public repository before submitting the manuscript. Recommended repositories:
1) Zenodo — multidisciplinary repository managed by CERN, assigns a DOI to each deposit.
2) Figshare — multidisciplinary repository for data, figures and academic materials.
3) DIGITAL.CSIC — institutional repository of the Spanish National Research Council.
4) E-Prints Complutense — institutional repository of the Complutense University of Madrid.
5) Thematic repositories specialised in art history, heritage or urban studies.
Data availability statement
Where applicable, articles published in Arte y Ciudad. Revista de Investigación should include a data availability statement at the end of the manuscript, indicating:
— Whether data are available in a public repository (with their corresponding persistent identifier, preferably DOI).
— Whether they are available upon reasonable request to the corresponding author.
— Whether there are restrictions (third-party intellectual property rights, confidentiality agreements with archives or institutions, protected personal data), explaining the reasons.
Data citation
Datasets deposited in repositories should be cited in the article's bibliography in the same way as any other source, including authorship, title, year, repository and DOI or persistent URL. This practice recognises the effort of data generation and curation as a fully-fledged academic contribution.
Licensed materials
When data include reproductions of artworks, archival images or graphic material subject to third-party rights, authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions for reproduction and for respecting the terms of use established by the rights holders.
