Inhabiting the City? An Approach to the Urban Experience from Contemporary Artistic Practice

Abstract

Based on previous studies in which was debated abou t the construction of modern urban and architectural paradigm as basis of the spat ial dominant discourse, and its subsequent evolution and development in postmodernism context , this paper focuses on the analysis of the experience of urban space, with particular emphasis on cognitive and perceptual processes that articulate from a gri d characteristic aproximation, in which is intended to explore the urban reality thro ugh relationships and internal dimensions that comprise it. It also will show the im portance of the creative character of human action on urban space, bringing some of the c ontemporary art proposals that from praxis pretend to develope alternative urban narratives, models that are based on issues related to the need of rethinking other ways of living the city, reaffirming from the local, civic appropriation of urban space. To s um up, this article could be a claim for the need of space autoproduction by mechanisms in w hich, using an artistic language, bring the possiblility of emergence a reflective an d emancipatory thought, in order to transform the empty spaces of urban life in anthrop ological places.
