The aesthetic point of view of the city has evolved very rapidly over the past century and half. Nowadays, urban aesthetics is a common aim in all actions of urban regeneration and urban renewal. Public art is an interesting way to achieving this aim, without being the only one. By its nature, public space is inherent place to materialize public art.
The urban image in public space requires an interaction between the medium itself and the society to be able to define it aesthetically. Social factors are necessary in this definition. They are used in a passive as well as in an active sense: urban image perception and participation in its genesis. In order to shape the identity of public space is essential to establish a proper balance between the two components: aesthetic and social.
