Abstract

Richard Ford -renowned Hispanist from the 19th century - travelled across Spain during the years 1830 and 1833, producing hundred of sketches that remained unpublished until 2014. During a short stay in Cordo ba, a city famous among travelers due to its magnificent Islamic heritage, Ford drew the city’s façade towards the Guadalquivir River, besides another three unpublished urban sketches also presented here. These sketches or drawings were made to document la ndscapes, cities, or architectural landmarks in times where photography did not exist, and they added interesting points of view of remarkable historical interest. Apart from these drawings, there is another illustration of the interior of the Mosque proba bly made by Ford’s wife Harriet, and based on another drawing by their friend and famous painter J. F. Lewis. This compilation of views is analyzed following Ford’s writings upon Cordoba, and taking as a reference other urban landscapes of the period .
