According to the premise that two basic components arise in every process of perception of the environment, cognitive and affective, this article deal with the relationship between affective components of individuals in the urban space and their judgment of beauty. For this purpose, an empirical study has been designed in 60 places in the historic center of Madrid. The participants' responses to the category of "beautiful" as well as to the affective dimensions of the environment ("pleasure", "impact", "control" and "activation") has been analyzed in a questionnaire, through the semantic diffe rential technique. In spite of the diverse and plurality nature of perception, the experimental results show the intense connection between the aesthetic dimension and the emotional factor of the environment (mainly the dimensions of "pleasure" and "impact ") before the experience of the landscape .Downloads
