Inclusive Language and Diversity

INCLUSIVE LANGUAGE, EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY POLICY

Arte y Ciudad. Revista de Investigación is committed to promoting gender equality, diversity and non-discrimination in all aspects of its editorial activity, in line with the recommendations of the FECYT and the equality policies of the European Research Council.

Non-sexist and respectful language

The journal encourages authors to use inclusive, non-sexist and respectful language in submitted manuscripts. We recommend avoiding the generic use of the masculine when neutral or paired alternatives exist, and using formulations that do not perpetuate stereotypes based on gender, origin, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, identity, ability or age.

For practical guidance, we recommend consulting the CSIC non-sexist language guide and the UNESCO recommendations.

Author identification

Authors may sign with their full name and surnames according to their preference, including compound names. The journal respects authors' complete given names and does not apply abbreviations that might conceal gender identity.

Authors are recommended to include their ORCID identifier to ensure correct attribution of their scientific output over time, especially in the case of changes of name or affiliation.

Composition of editorial team and reviewers

The editorial board and scientific committee of Arte y Ciudad. Revista de Investigación actively work to maintain a balanced composition in terms of gender, institutional origin and geographical diversity. The selection of external reviewers follows criteria of academic competence and seeks balanced representation reflecting the plurality of the international research community.

Diversity of topics and perspectives

The journal welcomes research addressing the history and theory of art, architecture, urbanism and visual culture from diverse perspectives, including gender, decolonial, intersectional and comparative approaches, provided they meet the established academic and methodological rigour criteria.

Cases of discrimination or harassment

Any complaint of discrimination, harassment or inappropriate conduct related to the editorial process may be addressed to the editorial team at arteyciudad@ccinf.ucm.es. All complaints will be treated with confidentiality and in accordance with the protocols of the Complutense University of Madrid.
