Abstract

Galera Mendoza, Esther. Estructura urbana y organización productiva en la Alhambra durante el Antiguo Régimen. Granada: Editorial Universidad de Granada, 2013. The book analyzes the role of the Alhambra citadel during the Early Modern period (16th–18th centuries), demonstrating that it functioned not only as a palatial and military town but also as a small city with productive, commercial, and residential structures. Through eight chapters and an extensive documentary appendix, the author examines the uses and transformations of the royal palaces, houses and mansions, commercial and productive infrastructure, religious spaces, and gardens following the Castilian conquest of 1492. The reviewer speaks favorably of the work's documentary thoroughness and its contribution to understanding the urban organization of the Alhambra under the Crown of Castile.
