Palacios de las Mil y Una Noches. Arquitectura morisca en los Estados Unidos, 1848–1930

La arquitectura morisca se popularizó en los Estados Unidos durante unos años de gran bienestar económico y de experimentación arquitectónica. El estilo surgió por influencia de los viajes al extranjero, sobre todo a Inglaterra, España y Oriente y el deseo de expresar lujo, sofisticado exotismo y ciertas peculiaridades diferenciadoras. Entre los detalles más utilizados se cuentan el arco de herradura para puertas y ventanas y diversos tipos de cúpulas. El expresivo estilo fue utilizado en muy diversas construcciones: mansiones, negocios, edificios de apartamentos, templos shriner, sinagogas, exposiciones universales y sobre todo con gran originalidad en los “palacios del cine” los nuevos, opulentos y lujosos teatros que surgieron con la popularidad del cine como pasatiempo masivo de la clase media.
